Walailak Civil Engineering Students Clinch Three Awards at the First Arau International Creativity Expo (ACE2023) in Malaysia

Students from Walailak University's Civil Engineering program have clinched three awards at the First Arau International Creativity Expo (ACE2023) held in Malaysia. The event, spanned from 18 – 20 August 2023, drew 150 competing teams from nine countries: Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Bulgaria, and Chad.

Two innovative projects developed by Walailak University are Novel Road Stud Reflector: WU-GID ROAD STUD and Novel Waffle Composite Wall.

The Novel Road Stud Reflector: WU-GID ROAD STUD won 2 awards: the GOLD MEDAL AWARD, receiving a medal and a certificate of honor, and the WIIPA SPECIAL AWARD (voted by the private sector), receiving a medal and a certificate of honor. This inventive light-reflecting stud is designed for road application as a solution for nighttime illumination. Its unique ability to self-emit light eliminates the need for conventional reflective studs, promising reduced road accidents, heightened visibility in dimly lit zones, and a cost-effective alternative to additional road lighting installations. The team members of this innovation consisted of Ms. Prapatsorn Rittigun, Mr. Musilhee Samae, Mr. Alongkron Prachumrat, Mr. Thayakorn Bunkaew, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanongsak Imjai as the adviser.

The Novel Waffle Composite Wall won the GOLD MEDAL AWARD, earning a medal and a certificate of honor. This composite wall is an innovative alternative to conventional walls, having superior heat dissipation, energy efficiency, user-friendly construction, durability, and a lightweight design. This innovation maintains a lower internal temperature compared to the external environment. With added fire-resistant attributes and a 20% cost advantage over lightweight bricks, it stands as an ideal choice for industrial construction, including tall buildings, and factories that require both speed and sturdiness in their development. The team members of this project are Ms. Thipphaporn Thongdet, Ms. Pakjira Aosai, Mr. Wanwidan Waeyusoh, Mr. Kongdach Buanoy, Mr. Adam Cheha, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanongsak Imjai as the adviser.
