THA SALA, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 8 July 2026 — Walailak University (WU), represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum and Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamon Thinsurat, held a meeting with members of the Banlaem Homestay Local Community Enterprise to discuss the development of Banlaem Homestay as a green and sustainable tourist destination. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, identify challenges, and explore potential solutions for strengthening sustainable community-based tourism.

The meeting also explored the potential installation of a solar power system at the community water supply pumping station in Banlaem Community. The initiative aims to develop an innovative, smart community water management system powered by clean energy, helping reduce electricity costs, address risks associated with drought, and strengthen the community’s capacity for sustainable water management. The proposed system would integrate solar energy with AI-powered smart water management technologies and community-based governance mechanisms, including the establishment of a community water management committee.

By combining clean energy, technology, and community participation, the initiative would help ensure a stable supply of clean water, reduce energy costs, generate funds for system maintenance, and enable the community to manage its water resources independently over the long term. It is expected to serve as a model for sustainable water resource management at the community level.

Furthermore, WU and the community discussed inadequate lighting along the boat transportation route, an important safety concern for fishermen and local residents. The meeting explored appropriate lighting solutions, including the proposed installation of LED lights around boat boarding and disembarking areas used by the Banlaem Homestay community group. The initiative would improve the safety of water transportation while supporting the future development of safe and sustainable community-based tourism.
