MUEANG, KRABI, 5 March 2026 — The Center for Academic Services, Walailak University, in collaboration with Krabi Province, held a meeting to develop the draft application for the geographical indication (GI) registration of the Krabi Giant Tiger Prawn.
The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onanong Cheablam, a researcher from the School of Management, staff from the Center for Academic Services, and representatives from the Office of Provincial Commercial Affairs, the Krabi Provincial Public Health Office, and local government agencies. Participants discussed the draft GI registration application and supporting documents to ensure alignment with the requirements of the Department of Intellectual Property.
The initiative aims to protect and promote the unique identity of the local product while establishing standards that enhance consumer confidence among both domestic and international customers. GI registration is also expected to increase the market value and competitiveness of the Krabi Giant Tiger Prawn.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to revise the relevant documents before submitting them to the Steering Committee for further consideration.
