Walailak University Hosts “Walailak Championship 2026” Swimming Competition with Official Recognition by Thailand Aquatics Association

Walailak University, through its Center for Student Promotion and Development, hosted the “Walailak Championship 2026” swimming competition on May 16–17, 2026, at the university swimming pool. The event attracted more than 1,000 participants and spectators, including university executives, athletes, and members of the public.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, who emphasized the university’s readiness to host swimming competitions at both provincial and national levels. He noted that the university’s swimming facilities meet competition standards and provide athletes with an environment where they can fully demonstrate their capabilities.

This year’s competition brought together more than 450 swimmers from 14 provinces across southern Thailand. Competitors ranged from youth athletes aged 7–15 years to participants in the general division. Winners received honorary trophies presented by the President of Walailak University.

According to Assistant Professor Dr. Marisa Poomiphak Na Nongkhai, Director of the Center for Student Promotion and Development, a key highlight of the competition was that athletes’ race times achieved during the event would be officially recognized by the Thailand Aquatics Association. This official recognition allows swimmers to officially record their performances and further develop their competitive profiles for higher-level competitions.

The “Walailak Championship 2026” served as another important platform for promoting sports excellence and strengthening opportunities for young athletes in southern Thailand to gain competitive experience in a professional-standard environment.
