Walailak University’s School of Pharmacy organizes Thailand and Japan Bilateral Joint Seminar on Antimicrobial Resistance with Nagasaki University from 19 – 20 December 2022 at Walailak University. 
 
     Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a public health issue that has been acknowledged on a global scale as limiting patients' access to effective treatments for bacterial infections. This seminar aims to promote future research collaboration on AMR, exchange knowledge, and raise awareness on the issue.
 
     On 19 December 2022, Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President of Walailak University; Dr. Jiraporn Chingunpitak, Dean of the School of Pharmacy; and Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of Center for International Affairs; welcomes delegates from Nagasaki University, led by Professor Kenji Hirayama, who come to attend the Bilateral Joint Seminar on Antimicrobial Resistance.

     Associate Professor Dr. Surin, WU’s Vice President, said: “I am very happy to welcome you all today. Thank you for making the time to visit Walailak University. Today’s seminar will be beneficial to all. And, hopefully, we can extend to other areas of collaboration in the future.”
 
     Walailak University is classified as a research-intensive university in Thailand. And for the first time, since its inception, the university has been ranked by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 at 1501+ among universities worldwide.  The university has adopted the United Kingdom Professional Standard Framework (UKPSF) to improve its teaching and learning and to make sure its professional teaching staff is well-equipped with up-to-date methods of teaching, assessments, and usage of technology. More than 80 percent of the university’s publications are in Q1 and Q2 in Scopus Indexed Journals and have the greatest strength in Health Sciences.
 
     Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin said: “Sharing knowledge and sustainable collaboration at international levels is a must to timely and efficiently ease today’s unpredictable worldwide mishaps. And I hope this delightful bilateral joint seminar on antimicrobial resistance will be a significant stepping stone towards our shared international pride and productive innovation for the world’s benefits.”
 
     Dr. Jiraporn Chingunpitak said: “On behalf of the School of Pharmacy, Walailak University, I am delighted to welcome honorable delegates from Nagasaki University, Japan, to Walailak University, Thailand. I hope this two-day visit will help us share good practices, and seek opportunities to develop academic corporation between the two universities and the two countries at large.”
 
     Professor Kenji Hirayama said: “As a representative from the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University, I’m very happy to learn from Prof. Surin that, in the past few years, Walailak University has achieved many successes. It is very good for us who are seeking such international relationships with potential. And I hope this relationship will be beneficial for both of us at the same time.” 
 
     The bilateral joint seminar held at Walailak University features cutting-edge knowledge on AMR and also a panel discussion titled Integrated AMR Control Involving Local Hospitals and Communities from both Japanese and Thai scientists.
