CIA and SAF, Walailak University organized academic collaborative discussion with UMS, Malaysia

On Wednesday, 19th October 2023, the Center for International Affairs (CIA), and the School of Agriculture and Food Industry (SAF), Walailak University co-organized an academic collaboration discussion with Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture (FSA), Universiti Malaysia Sabah or UMS via zoom platform application.

Honor presented at the meeting from Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Universiti Malaysia Sabah were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azwan Awang, Dean of Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jupikely James Silip, Deputy Dean (Farm Management and Industrial Relations), and Dr. Clament Chin Fui Seung, Head of Programme (Crop Production). From the School of Agriculture and Food Industry, Walailak University attended Assoc. Prof. Dr. Potjamarn Suraninpong, senior lecturer, Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Manat Chaijan, Head of Research Unit, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Chantira Wongnen, Head of program (Agriculture Technology). The meeting run by Ms. Jiraporn Kansuwan, officer, Center for International Affairs and Ms. Sukanlaya Thavornpon.

As it was the first time of the two universities meeting, the two universities started by introducing the university and its faculty’s information and follow by participant’s self-introduction.  After discussion, the two faculties shared many possibilities in researches, mobility, conferences and internship program. Some mutual interest proposed by FSA were in Health of soil, Post-harvest and Livestock while the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry proposed a school research forum where the university can invite an expert from FSA to give specific lecture to faculty members, also in field of crop production, food nutrition and chemistry, animal production, cannabis and nepenthes or in term of utilization of agriculture production were in their interest.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah or UMS located in Sabah, Malaysia. The university was first time ranked by THE World University Rankings at 1501+ like Walaila University, and its achieved 1001-1200 by QS World University Rankings 2023, be ranked at 227 in QS Asia Rankings 2022.  In Agriculture and Forestry, UMS was top 4 in Malaysia or 351-400 by QS Subject Rankings 2022 and in Petroleum Engineering, UMS was ranked 151-160 or top 6 in Malaysia.
