On 11 October 2022, Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, presided at the closing ceremony at Hua Taphan Conference Room, Walailak University Hospital, and presented the Certificate of Chinese Tea Culture Training Completion to students who passed the training.

Witnessing the ceremony through online platform, were Ms. Feng Junying, Charge d'affaires of Education, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Thailand; Mr. Wu Guorong, President of the Open University of Fujian, and the administration team from the Open University of Fujian.

On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phatnarin Supakorn, Acting Director of WU Center for International Affairs, lecturers and students from School of Liberal Arts attended the ceremony.

“Tea culture is an important culture of China. Thai people have known about it for a long time. There are a lot of Chinese and Chinese descendants here in Thailand, making the relationship between the two countries very close. So, this is a good opportunity for us to learn about this culture. As for Walailak University, we are a young university that just turns 30. We hope to learn from the Open University of Fujian which was established long time ago. I would like to take this opportunity to invite the President, vice presidents, and executives of the Open University of Fujian to come visit Walailak University. And we will do the same if we have a chance. I believe we will have more future collaborations regarding student exchange, staff mobility, and research,” said Prof. Dr. Sombat.

At the moment, Walailak University has Bachelor of Arts Program in Chinese in which a lot of students are interested. The Univerity is promoting it and hopefully it will gain more popularity in the future.
