Walailak University in Coordination with the Province of Nakhon Si Thammarat Furthers WU Research and Innovations for Development of the Province


      Walailak executives, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Aciting Vice president of Walailak University, welcomed the visit of Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat accompanied by heads of bureaucratic units to gain updates on the progress of research and development of Walailak University’s remarkable innovations by Center of Excellence coordinating the project with the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat on 18 May 2022. 


     This visit follows as part of the sequential events for the joint-development program coordinated between Walailak University and the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Mr. Kraisorn Visitwong, Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat enunciated on this visit’s purpose for receiving updates on research and innovations of the university for future integration into the society. Governors stated his perception towards the university as a knowledge platform for the public. The coordination is expected to help disseminate Walailak University’s research and innovation from which the community can benefit.

 


     The visiting team visited Center of Excellence specializing in different areas of expertise including Research Center of Excellence in Innovation of Essential Oil presenting the innovation in food security, food preservation and packaging extending fruits’ shelf-life and Center of Excellence for Ecoinformatics presenting about Smart Farming and accurate agricultural innovations to assist Siam ruby pomelo farmers in calculating proportional watering scales. The third is Hemp development project involves the signing of over 10 MOUs for co-developed research projects on cannabis, hemp and kratom. Center of Excellence in Wood Science and Engineering gave a presentation on DryWooD Control system, concentration of wood impregnation solution and other wood innovations reducing running costs in the wood industry and ensuring its quality. The last project was Plant Genetic Conservation Project entailing a visit to a new species of nepenthes, Bota cactus dome and the banana garden home to 100 rare banana species. 

      As a Global and Research Frontier university, Walailak University has been promoting world-class research publications conducted under collaboration with world’s renowned researchers. This co-supervised project is expected to not only help the university achieve the goal but also contribute significantly to the common good of the province.
