Walailak University is continuing to expand its “Walailak Health Model” from the area served by the Satit Walailak Pattana Community Health Promoting Hospital to Tha Sala Subdistrict Municipality. The initiative integrates collaborative efforts to strengthen the community healthcare system, leading to the establishment of a rehabilitation center called the “Neighborhood Health Rehabilitation Center.” The university also reaffirmed its commitment to continuously developing the original pilot area while expanding the model to new communities in order to sustainably improve the quality of life of local residents and elderly people.

Recently, lecturers from the Physical Therapy and Medical Technology programs under the School of Allied Health Sciences, together with the Applied Thai Traditional Medicine program under the School of Medicine and the Center for Academic Services of Walailak University, held discussions with the director and staff of the Satit Walailak Pattana Community Health Promoting Hospital. The meeting focused on exchanging ideas and preparing activities that align with the local community context.

Through previous operations, the Satit Walailak Pattana Community Health Promoting Hospital has successfully developed a tangible community health model and received financial support from the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Administrative Organization to establish the “Neighborhood Health Rehabilitation Center.” The center provides healthcare and rehabilitation services for people in the community.

To further expand the impact of the rehabilitation center, the working team plans to improve service accessibility through public relations campaigns and informational video clips to raise awareness among local residents. In addition, the School of Medicine is developing herbal products using locally sourced herbs, while the School of Allied Health Sciences is conducting home visits for target groups to create healthcare and fall-prevention programs for at-risk individuals, as well as providing individualized medical technology services for patients.

Furthermore, lecturers from the School of Allied Health Sciences, School of Medicine, and School of Informatics held discussions with administrators and staff of Tha Sala Subdistrict Municipality to expand the Walailak Health Model into the municipality area. The initiative focuses on developing a community healthcare system that emphasizes activities for “socially active elderly people” rather than concentrating solely on homebound or bedridden patients. It also aims to enhance healthcare skills among patients, families, and elderly groups in the community while promoting health literacy through appropriate media and communication tools.
This initiative reflects the strong collaboration among multidisciplinary health science teams at Walailak University under “the Walailak Health Model Program: Revitalizing Quality of Life and Promoting Sustainable Well-being in Communities Surrounding the University.” The collaboration also involves public health agencies and local administrative organizations working together to develop healthcare models that respond to community contexts, improve people’s quality of life sustainably, and create community-based healthcare prototypes aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: “Good Health and Well-Being” and Goal 17: “Partnerships for the Goals.”
