MOU signing ceremony between School of Science, Walailak University and the Interdisciplinary Center for Science Computing (IWR), University of Heidelberg, Germany

 



On 28 March 2014, Dr. Keerath Sanguansai, President of Walailak University and Prof. Dr. Dres. h.c. Hans Georg Bock, Managing Director of IWR, University of Heidelberg signed a Memorandum of Understanding at a University Council’s Reception Room, 2nd Fl. Administration Building, Walailak University.


Also present as witnesses at the ceremony were Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Willi Jäger, professor from IWR, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amara Changsub, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aswin Promsopa, Assistant the President for International Relations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sanae Rujivan, Associate Dean, and 8 faculty members of School of Science.

The MOU is an outcome of the meeting between Asst. Prof. Dr.Sanae Rujivan, Associate Dean of School of Science, Walailak University, and the Managing Director of IWR in October 2013, discussing about a possibility of initiating an academic collaboration between the B.Sc. program in Computational Science, supported by the Development for the Promotion of Science and Talents project (DPST/พสวท.), and IWR, University of Heidelberg. The M.D. of IWR has interested in the B.Sc. program and recognized the value of collaborative research between the two institutions. The two parties then agreed to sign MOU as a statement of intent containing main mutual agreements on researcher and faculty member exchange, student exchange and joint research collaborations. This MOU will be valid for five years from 28 March 2014.

After the MOU signing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Dres. h. c. Hans Georg Bock gave a special presentation on “IWR Overview” at Tumpang Meeting Room, Admin. Bldg. More than 60 staff and students were interested in and joined the informative presentation.

Moreover, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Willi Jäger also gave a special lecture on “Innovations happen at Interfaces-The Key Role of Mathematical Modeling and Simulation for Progress in Science and Technology” on Saturday, 29 March 2014, at Innovation Building, Walailak University.
