Walailak University has officially announced its readiness to host the 41st Thailand University Personnel Games, "Tumpang Games," scheduled to take place from May 3 to 10, 2025. The event will bring together more than 7,000 athletes from 63 higher education institutions across the country, competing for 426 gold medals. The competition is expected to stimulate economic activity in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
On April 3, 2025, a press conference was held at the Pattarathammaporn Chamber, Walailak University Hospital. The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, along with Mr. Prasong Chanyoo, Tha Sala District Chief, representing the Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat; Associate Professor Dr. Chusit Pradabpet, Chair of the University Sports Board of Thailand; and Associate Professor Dr. Chanchai Suksuwan, Chair of the Subcommittee on Sports Promotion for Excellence under the University Sports Board of Thailand. Together, they announced the university’s preparedness to host the 41st Thailand University Personnel Games, which also celebrates Walailak University's 33rd anniversary.
This will be the third time Walailak University has served as host, following its previous roles in 2006 and 2012. The 2025 edition will be held under the theme “Power of Spirit,” emphasizing sportsmanship, resilience, and unity. More than 7,000 athletes from 63 universities will compete in 17 sports, vying for 426 gold medals.
Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong expressed confidence in the university’s capacity to host the event, highlighting its international-standard sports facilities and extensive experience in organizing both national and international competitions. He also noted that the games would not only promote athletic excellence but also offer visitors the chance to explore Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat City, and surrounding areas—helping stimulate the local economy and energize the community.
The 41st Thailand University Personnel Games will feature competitions in 17 sports, including athletics, football, futsal, volleyball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, swimming, pétanque, aerobics, dance sport, sepak takraw, hoop takraw, e-sports, snooker & billiards, golf, and a woodball demonstration event. Most competitions will take place at Walailak University, with golf to be held at Ratchaprapa Dam in Surat Thani and snooker & billiards taking place in Nakhon Si Thammarat City.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for May 3, 2025, at the Tumpang Main Stadium, Walailak University.
