Walailak University, led by Dr. Chirawat Wattanapanich, Deputy Director of the Center for International Affairs, and Dr. Jiraporn Chingunpitak, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, welcomed delegates from the University of San Carlos, Philippines, at Chorpradu Chamber, Walailak University Hospital, yesterday. This was the first visit of students and lecturers from the University of San Carlos's Department of Pharmacy to Walailak University under the Walailak-San Carlos Pharmacy Student Exchange Program.

"On behalf of the School of Pharmacy at Walailak University, I am delighted to welcome the honorable delegates from the University of San Carlos, Philippines. I am confident that during the 2-week visit, we will have the opportunity to exchange good practices and research opportunities and to develop academic collaborations between the two universities and the two countries at large," said Dean Jiraporn.

Similar to Walailak University, which is located in Nakhon Si Thammarat – a southern province of Thailand, the University of San Carlos (USC) is located in Cebu City, Cebu Province, in South-Central Philippines. The University of San Carlos's Department of Pharmacy, School of Health Care Professions, was established in 1947 and has been providing excellent service to the community for more than 75 years.
 
The Walailak-San Carlos Pharmacy Student Exchange Program takes place from 12 – 23 March 2023. Four fourth-year pharmacy students from USC will have the opportunity to participate in lab practices and conduct research under the guidance of advisors at Walailak University. They will also go on field trips to cultural sites in Nakhon Si Thammarat and gain more insight into herbal medicinal products.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gerard Lee L. See, Dean of the School of Health Care Professions, USC, said, "We are confident that both faculty and staff from USC will be able to maximize their learning opportunities at Walailak University. We thank Walailak University for the warm welcome and the activities prepared for the faculty and students. We are thankful and hopeful that this partnership will soon bear fruit, such as more teaching and learning engagements, joint grants, and research outputs."

This exchange program is believed to enhance academic collaborations between the two institutions and provide students with professional skills as well as skills of the 21st century, such as independence, adaptability, cross-cultural communication, and problem-solving under different cultural contexts. And next month, third-year Walailak University pharmacy students will have the opportunity to fly to the University of San Carlos to participate in lab practices with USC pharmacy students.
