Walailak University organizes the 4th International Staff’s Meeting with the President

     The 4th International Staff’s Meeting with the President was held yesterday (28 December 2022) by Walailak University’s Center for International Affairs whose primary mission is to drive the university’s internationalization and global collaborations. The 4th International Staff’s Meeting aims to serve as a platform for international staff to get updated on the university’s progress, share suggestions for improvements, and get to know each other.

     Currently, Walailak University has more than 47 lecturers from 19 countries such as the US, Canada, the UK, India, Poland, Malaysia, Indonesia, and China. The university has progressed tremendously in many areas in the past six years under the leadership of Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong. And for the first time since its inception 30 years ago, Walailak University has entered Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023 at 1501+, among 1,799 universities worldwide that were assessed.
 
     Thanks to all the hard work from every staff that contribute to this achievement including the international staff, especially in internationalization and research area, as Associate Professor Dr. Surin Misrikrod, Walailak University’s Vice President, said “climbing the world university rankings and going global is no longer an option.” 
 
     On this occasion, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong emphasized how important it is for Walailak University, classified as the first category university in Thailand or a frontier research university, to climb the THE World University Rankings. He also highlighted that Walailak University will continue to improve as a university of quality and commit to producing smart students.
 
     At the present, more than 90 percent of the university’s lecturers are certified by Advance HE based on the United Professional Standard Framework (UKPSF). And around 83 percent of the university’s publications are in Q1 and Q2 in Scopus database (updated on 26 December 2022). Even though Thailand is considered an aging society and has a decreasing number of young populations, Walailak University has an increasing number of freshmen intake with higher GPAs.

     The meeting also featured a presentation of research and publication support for international staff by Assistant Professor Dr. Udomsak Saengow, the Director of Research and Innovation Institute of Excellence (RIIE), in topics relating to rules and regulations of the international research grant, external research grant, request for publication award, and Walailak Research Convention 2023 which will be held from 28 – 29 March 2023; and a presentation of useful information for international staff about university’s contract, visa, and work permit by the Division of Human Resources and Organizations at Chorpradu Chamber, Walailak University Hospital.
