     Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, gave a lecture as a guest speaker in an inauguration of the Doctor of Philosophy Program and Master of Public Health in Public Health Research in a webinar “Epistemology of Knowledge” organized by School of Public Health, Walailak University on the topic “Epistemology of knowledge” on 20 January, 2022. The event was joined by over 60 master’s degree and Ph.D. students from the international public health program and lecturers both from the School of Public Health and other schools. 
      The program Doctor of Philosophy Program and Master of Public Health in Public Health Research sets a goal to produce Ph.D. graduates equipped with research rigor to devise the innovations serving as a practical solution to public health issues, and make international publications. The program has recently open for enrollment on 3 January 2022. Among a diverse range of courses offered is Epistemology for Public Health aimed to establish fundamental understanding of how knowledge is obtained so that the students can put it to practice in the creation of innovations to tackle public health problems. 
      Professor Dr. Sombat said in the lecture, “In short, it is about how to build and explain the knowledge which is the skill considered significant, particularly for Ph.D. students.” Professor Dr. Sombat also emphasized that knowledge exists in nature waiting to be captured by scholars through the research process. “Take for example the rule of gravity and the formula to conceptualize force”, said Professor Dr. Sombat before elaborating on the importance of research process starting from a review of literature spiraling up to the process of analyzing, synthesizing, conceptualizing and constructing models to prove the hypothesis which yield significant findings developing into theories at the end.
