Big research project establishes a new agricultural center of research excellence

Recently, a research series has been undertaken by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warin Intana from the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry, Walailak University.  He is the project leader recently honored with a Commercial Innovation Award from the Science Park Promotion Agency. Included within that research series is the significant “Investigation and Collection of Indigenous Microorganisms in Nakhon Si Thammarat for Genetics Conservation and Utilization in Crop Production.” The work was funded by the National Research Council of Thailand and responds to “The Plant Genetics Conservation Project under the Royal Initiation of her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Walailak University.” Further, it establishes the Center of Research Excellence in Agricultural Microorganisms at Walailak University.  One of its major objectives is to transfer microbial innovation and technology to farmers, which Dr.Warin believes could help decrease agricultural costs by 22% on average.

More than one million baht per month are spent for 88 research assistants and 23 students from the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry. This is a good opportunity for students to gain valuable research experience while they are studying at Walailak University.
