Walailak University's International Staff Share Research Ideas and Strategies at the 5th International Staff Meeting



The 5th International Staff Meeting of Walailak University took place yesterday at Chorpradu Chamber, Walailak University Hospital. More than 49 international lecturers from 19 countries attended the meeting to receive updated information and share their ideas and strategies for promoting research publications and expanding international collaborations.

Presiding over the event was Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, the Active President of Walailak University. Professor Sombat emphasized the importance of producing quality research as Walailak University is categorized as a tier 1 university or a research-intensive university - out of 16 universities in this category in Thailand. A recent update on 20 March 2023 reported that over 90 percent of Walailak University’s research articles are published in Scopus-indexed international journals in Quartile 1 and Quartile 2, considered the highest percentage in the nation, totaling 135 research articles this year up until now.

Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Acting Vice President of Walailak University, thanked the international staff, along with Thai academics and staff, for their contributions to the university's recent entry into the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 at 1501+. Eight out of 49 international staff are considered the top 100 researchers of the University.

Established in 1992, Walailak University is celebrating its 31st anniversary on 29 March 2023. The university is hosting a hybrid Walailak Research Convention under the theme "Higher Education in the Disruptive Era" from 28-29 March 2023. The research convention features scientists and scholars from around the world and also includes seminars on various topics by the university's centers of excellence, such as Cannabis and Kratom for Medical Purposes, Essential Oils and Bioactive/Nutraceutical Compounds in Food, Nora and Intangible Cultural Heritage in Southeast Asia, etc.

During the Q&A session, the international staff shared and exchanged ideas about research grants, expanding international collaborations, as well as the support needed for international collaboration expansion.
